In a pursuit of bigger dreams

Renjo-La Pass Trekking is one of the most underrated trekking routes in Nepal which offers the exploration of the remote but naturally rich areas of Khumbu region. Renjo-La Pass (5360m) is one of the three high passes of Everest region and crossing it we can reach the pristine Gokyo Lake. The Renjo La pass trekking goes through the Khumbu heartlands of the Sherpa and offers an eyecatching Himalayan panorama of the whole Solukhumbu region, including Mt. Everest (8848m) and Mt. Lhotse (8516m). Furthermore, you will see the Mt. Makalu (8463m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8201m), Nuptse (7855m), Mt. Pumori (7145m), Mt. Ama Dablam (6856m), Mt. Thamserku (6723m) and other famous climbing mountain peaks of the Everest region. You can also explore the Lush-valleys, high passes, Tibetan Sherpa culture and their warm hospitality while exploring Gokyo valley.

We started our journey by taking a jeep from Gaushala to Phaplu. Then from the second day the real trek started. The trek featured rocky trails along with lush Himalayan forests of juniper, rhododendron, fir, and pine. Renjo-La Pass Trek highlighted the Sherpa villages of Namche, Thame, and Gokyo as it reaches the high pass of Renjo-La, which hosts an amazing view of the mountains, and the highest freshwater lake system called Gokyo Lakes. The trekkers get to relish the alluring panorama of Everest (8848m), Cho Oyu (8201m), Lhotse (8516m), Ama Dablam, Makalu (8481m), and many other snow capped mountains of Khumbu region throughout the trek. The trek also featured Sagarmatha National Park which is home to diverse floras and faunas.

The Sherpa’s are the aboriginal people of the Himalayas, who have adopted to the harsh conditions of the alpines successfully. Eco-friendly tourism concept has developed in Sagarmatha National Park, lately, which has resulted in the reduction of waste left by the trekkers in the region. A unique blend of Nepalese Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism can be seen in the lifestyle, tradition of the highly religious Sherpas. We were able to see monasteries, chhortes, praying flags and scribbles that have centuries soaked in them.

This may seem like a normal picture of some friends, taken while travelling, right? But this photo also consists of 13 days of travelling, 185.04 km, 290,655 steps 1 summit (Renjo Pass), 3 beautiful lake (Gokyo 3, 2, 1), 5360 meters highest elevation, Around 100 cups of black tea, and 1 hot shower.

Furthermore, it is a small village that normally is very quiet during winter due to extreme cold and snowfall. It is challenging and most demanding trekking routes of Everest in terms of Himalayan scenery. Trek to Renjo la pass traversing through delightful valleys, with crystal blue and green pristine lakes, world’s biggest Nogazompa glacier dominated by nearest mountains of Everest Himalaya range. Gokyo Lakes is a holy pilgrimage place for both Hindu and Buddhists.
